I am thinking ahead to 2020, thinking about the grade I will give myself for 2019. I am aiming for an A. Adopting the following mindsets may help.
ATTITUDE: Many times the difference between joy and misery lies in focus. Even science is getting involved in this idea. An attitude of gratitude makes a difference when circumstances don’t quickly change or improve. Over the holiday I saw a delightful Shirley Temple movie that perfectly illustrated this idea: The Bluebird of Happiness.
ACCEPTANCE: This is tough for the ‘fixers’ among us. Multitudes of issues lie outside circles of responsibility or ability. So are there tons of situations that CAN be affected though some might not be easy or fun to own up to. Fixating on what lies beyond scope of ability can steal joy, just as avoiding what isn’t can thwart peace and accomplishment.
AWARENESS: Is this maybe another word for mindfulness – being interactive with people, places and things around us, appreciating the simple and the natural? Awareness is the key to kindness to others and to care of self. Screens are complicating this, in some cases erasing it.
AUTHENTICITY: Being genuine amplifies the positive, helps in coping with the negative, and makes life easier.
Will 2019 be problem-free? No. But can it be amazing anyway? Yes. Happy 2019!
