Summer With a Twist

School’s out.  We are getting a jump start on summer!  Whatever happened to those ‘hazy crazy lazy days’ of summer?  Plan some fun with these three action verbs in mind and prepare for summer with a twist.

*MOSEY.  Yep it’s a real word.  If you are goal-oriented a day now and then without a plan might provide a chance to savor the flavors of summer. Make a random selection from the grab-bag of destination and activity options rather than trying to cram them all into a summer that seems to grow shorter and shorter.

*BACKPACK. I don’t mean load one with a set weight and take off on a training route with a multi-mile conquest in mind.  I am thinking more along the lines of sweating less.  Using a backpack might help me get to the river’s edge with only one trip back up the hill to the car; that would be at leaving time. No cooler to lug around no basket of foods to waste.  Could I really spend several hours enjoying the Current with snacks and drinks and books that all fit into one manageable carry-all?

*EXPERIMENT. Always have Mexican food at the same spot? If  you don’t want  to swap cuisines then perhaps eat your fave in a new locale. Or try something new in a sentimental place – a different theater and/or hotel if you and your pals always head to Branson. Nothing greater than kayaking our Current?  Load up that kayak and try the Huzzah or Big Creek or the Current up at Baptist Camp.  Experiment with something new and see what unfolds on the summer calendar.

Do include a visit to a show at  Raiding the Country Vaults if you are headed to Branson soon.  Our very own Billy Yates is performing there!

About gleefulee

Retired after 33 years of teaching English and French (one year in private school in Memphis, TN and the rest in public school in Doniphan, MO. Enjoying new adventures - all those things I put off for lack of time, energy, now I can try them! Pottery, writing, traveling, camping, kayaking, dancing, listening to some of the best live music ever, and making passionate, lively new friendships. All christened with an appreciation for great red wine! Created and operated KC's on the Current, then sold it and managed it for new owners. Now totally retired and looking for my summers to be full of fun as well! Born and raised in St. Louis, MO near The Hill. Though a transplant to Southeast Missouri, still very much a city gal at the core with a deep love of the natural resources in these Ozark foothills. Currently I am a content contributor for Poplar Bluff Living Magazine and a columnist for our local weekly The Prospect News. My rescue Siamese helps with most of the proofreading; he has a great ear. I relish the solitude easily had in the Mark Twain Forest but thoroughly enjoy lively outings for music, wine, conversation close to home or in my beloved hometown. Technology is my greatest challenge but so worth the shared connections. There may be a need for solitude but there is little loneliness.
